UŁADZIMIR KOŁAS


Was born in 1951 in Belarus. Graduated from Higher School for Sceenwriters and Film Directors of Goskino in Moscow, in the Soviet Union. Directed a number of feature films and documentaries at Belarusfilm Studio and for Belarusian TV in Minsk in 1980 – 1991. Won several prizes at the Soviet Union film festivals, such as “Nadezhda” (“Hope”) for the best short film debut.

In 1991 founded Belarusian Humanities Lyceum which at present functions underground in Belarus. Under his artistic supervision his pupils make films and stage plays. Several documentaries have been produced about the Lyceum activities, such as “Partisan School” (director Jerzy Kalina) and “A Lesson of Belarusian” (director Mirosław Dembiński), which  have been awarded numerous prizes at international film festivals. In 2008 and 2009 he made three films for the Film Studio Everest: Ada Gallery, Narodny Albom and “White Sail on the Pripyat”.
